Dear reader, in this Quarterly I will once again take you through our plans for the future. Of course, we will also take a look back at recent developments and achievements. To start with the latter, we ended the 2022 calendar year very well. Revenue has grown and that represents a real achievement by our entire team – particularly since 2022 was marked by scarcity, for example in the availability of essential (electronic) parts, but also in the availability of employees. This not only resulted in longer delivery times, it also held back our innovation. Searching for and developing alternative parts cost our engineers a lot of time and energy, increasing the time-to-market for our innovations. So I would like to take this opportunity to again thank all Audion employees and also our dealer network for their commitment and flexibility. They are the bedrock of our growing organization and, buoyed by a well-filled order book, I would now like to look forward to the future.
In this article I will discuss the following developments:
Audion represented at Interpack
From 4 to 10 May, Audion will be represented by a large team at the Interpack trade show (booth H11D44). We’re going all out with some great innovations. We see that the big international trade shows in particular are really buzzing again, so we have decided to go all out at Interpack. For me, along with PackExpo in Chicago, Interpack is the top international trade show for packaging. But of course there are other trade shows, too – for example, in late 2022 I was at the All4Pack in Paris. You notice an increasingly local character at these events. I am really looking forward to welcoming and speaking to everyone again, clients and prospects alike.
Expanding our dealer network at Interpack
Besides meeting customers and interested parties, we are still looking to expand our dealer network. We already have a fairly global presence with our dealer network, but we see that these dealers are often organized around one or more strategic target markets. For example, we may be represented in one country by a very good dealer who organizes its business around E-commerce (E-fulfilment) and Industries. In the same geographic market, we would like to supplement our dealer network with a dealer that will focus on our other strategic target markets, such as Food or Life Science.

Innovations at Interpack
We will be presenting a number of innovations at Interpack, in addition to our extensive programme. For example, a brand new Audion thermal transfer printer and organic paper packaging for the Speedpack. These innovations are of particular interest for E-commerce and Industries (Parts). Naturally, we will also be demonstrating other innovations, around the continuous and power sealers. Connectivity and validation are key to the power sealers. At Audion, we are increasingly organized around our strategic target markets, which is also how we will be presenting ourselves at Interpack. We will tell you much more about this over the coming months, ahead of the trade show.
Digitalization live at Interpack
We are still hard at work building our new website and webshop. The expectation is that we will be able to go live around the time of Interpack. From then on, we will sell our products that do not require extensive customization through the webshop – for example, hand sealers, table sealers and the simpler continuous and power sealers. The webshop will initially go live in the countries where we have our own presence, i.e. the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom. We expect to roll it out to other countries in phases, first in the EU and later globally.
Further growth in 2023
We will shortly be opening our new production facility in Kleve (Germany); construction is almost finished and we are now setting up for production. We will manufacture various machines there, but the emphasis will be on expanding the production capacity of the Speedpack. We are also going to grow as a manufacturer of film packaging. Our converter in Germany is now running 24/7 and our packagings are widely sold. The second converter is therefore under development!
This second converter will be situated somewhere else in the world, to make sure our production of film packaging is located really close to users. This will be good for delivery reliability and, with shorter transport distances, we will also be contributing to more sustainable logistics chains. Our goal for the future is to have one or more converters for packaging production on every continent. The foil packaging market is huge, with a small number of manufacturers based mainly in the US. We believe we will grow in this area in the coming years thanks to our nearshoring vision, because sustainability is increasingly important.
Conclusion
As CEO, my focus always needs to be on the longer term and strategic goals. 2022 was a year in which, of necessity, there was too much focus on day-to-day operations. We had to react quickly and respond to current events, and innovation was slower than expected. One result was that we did not always take the time to celebrate our successes. So I’ll say it again – we really did very well as a team! I look forward to working with our enthusiastic team to make 2023 another great year.
