The Audion SpeedBags film line is our answer to the growing, worldwide demand for bags on roll. The SpeedBags are different from all our other packaging products and can be processed on various Audion Speedpack packaging machines and on packaging machines from other manufacturers. We are very proud of our SpeedBags: not only the development and production of this film solution has been carried out entirely in-house, but also the development and production of the converter that produces the SpeedBags. In this article, we will tell you more about our converter, which we use to produce SpeedBags in both standard and customised formats. And we answer some frequently asked questions about SpeedBags on rolls.
Growing demand, global challenges, and innovation at Audion
The world around us has undergone many changes in recent years and at Audion we notice how our customers are affected by the new developments. They are faced with a growing and changing demand, qualitative and quantitative challenges in the supply chain, staff shortages, and the growing need for sustainable solutions.
Recently, we have seen a growing demand for bags on roll among our customers, partly due to problems in the supply chain of other suppliers combined with the growing demand in various markets.
“Customers increasingly ask us if we also offer packaging for the other packaging machines they work with. Until recently the answer was no; we only offered tubular film on rolls, as we felt that was the most sustainable way to process flexible films. We still believe in the sustainability of tubular film on a roll, which can be cut and sealed to suit any bag length, but we also see that traditional bags on roll are gaining ground among other packaging solutions. This is thanks to the speed and simplicity of the packaging process, and because our SpeedBags can now be made from recycled material. That’s why we developed the SpeedBags.” – Caroline Mastenbroek, Product Marketing Manager at Audion Packaging Machines
The Audion SpeedBags converter: from tubular film to custom bags on roll
An important first step in the development of the Audion SpeedBags was the development and construction of our converter. Our engineers developed the converter specifically for the in-house production of bags on roll. With this converter, built in our production facility in Germany, we can produce different types and sizes of SpeedBags. We do this in the following way:
- Plastic granulate is melted and extruded into a tube of film
- The tubular film is fed into the machine
- The perforation is applied
- The bottom seal is applied
- The pre-perforated bags are wound on a reel

The converter is currently in operation 24/7, to enable us to supply most sizes of SpeedBags from stock. Customers also have the option to have SpeedBags produced in the specific size they want. We are working on expanding the capacity, so that in the future we can supply even more SpeedBags from stock and provide customers with their unique packaging needs.
What are Audion SpeedBags?
Audion SpeedBags are bags on roll with a bottom seal and an open top, separated from each other by a perforation. The bags are available in different sizes and types:
- Transparent film
- Duplex film, a combination of white (front side, ideal for printing) and transparent (back side)
- E-Commerce film with black inside for privacy
- Anti-static film
What do you need to work with Audion SpeedBags on roll?
Essential in the development of our bags on roll was that they would not only be suitable for our customers that already work with Audion Speedpack packaging machines, but also for customers working with packaging machines of other manufacturers. They all had the same need: bags on roll with one open side, allowing an operator to pack products easily and quickly. There are only three requirements for working with the Audion SpeedBags:
- An operator
- A packaging machine suitable for bags on roll
- SpeedBags
In addition to several Audion packaging machines, such as the Speedpack Tabletop 300 and Speedpack 400 series, packaging machines from manufacturers such as Clamco Packaging, Automated Packaging Systems and Sharp Packaging are also suitable.
For which markets are the Audion SpeedBags best suited?
The SpeedBags offer particular advantages in markets that require large series of products to be packed at high speeds, such as Warehouse packaging, Parts packaging and E-fulfilment.
